swarm 2 / 2022 / Iceland

“swarm II” is the 2nd Version of a windsculpture that was originally created as part of an artist residency in Siglufjördur, Iceland in 2015 and is now situated permanently in front of the Herring Era Museum in Siglufjördur, Iceland, since 2022. To withstand the harsh weather conditions in Iceland, the new version was made of 1000 stainless steel knives, attached to fishing lines in a reals oversea container (frame). The knives are moved around their own axis by the wind, shimmering like a herring swarm.
The Installation was first exhibited several times at the port of Hamburg 2020 and 2021 and invites the viewers to think about the past and future of fishing, the handling of nature and our own responsibility in consumption.
